I messed up my TNG Install

Guest Posted: 15.12.2005, 18:21
Unregistered User Hi!

I think I've messed up my pnTNG install....

Have been guessing a bit on how to get it up and running to tell you the truth and now I'm getting an error each time I try to open up my site which means I can't get into Postnuke and edit any of the settings I already created!

The error I am getting when I try to navigate to my site where I usually log in to admin Postnuke (www.stantonetal.com) is:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/markie/public_html/modules/pnTNG/pnblocks/WhatsNew.php on line 92

Below are the notes I made against the readme file while I followed them.

Not sure if you can decipher it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

All the best

Mark

0. Install TNG stand alone and verify it is working correct.
Configure TNG such that logon is required.
DONE
1. Unzip the contents of pnTNG to your PostNuke modules directory.
DONE
2. Copy pnTNG\TNG\*.php to the root of your TNG directory.
This is the directory that contain's the TNG config.php file
DONE
3. In Administration, go to Modules, then Initialise & activate pnTNG
DONE
4. In Administration, go to pnTNG (which was just activated) and select your options
There are two critical settings:
1. The location of the TNG installation relative to http://www.sitename.com/
This should be the URL for accessing TNG directly from the web.
Do not use the trailing slash!
eg. TNG for access at http://www.sitename.com/TNG.
eg postnuke/TNG for access at http://sitename.com/postnuke/TNG
2. The system dirctory location of the TNG installation
This is location of TNG relative to the PostNuke directory from a system file perspective
Use a leading / for absolute path from your root
Do not use a leading / for relative path to PostNuke (this is the best and most portable

option)
Do NOT use a trailing / in either case!!!
eg. TNG installed in /home/www/htdocs/TNG, PostNuke at /home/www/htdocs/postnuke/7xx
for absolute reference use: /home/www/htdocs/TNG
for relative reference use: ../../TNG
eg. TNG installed in /home/www/htdocs/postnuke/TNG, PostNuke at

/home/www/htdocs/postnuke
for absolute reference use: /home/www/htdocs/postnuke/TNG
for relative reference use: TNG
I put:
The Location of the TNG installation relative to http://www.sitename.com/
http://stantonetal.com/genealogy/TNG

The system dirctory location of the TNG installation
public_html/genealogy/TNG

Name of the default TNG Database (for sideblocks and user creation)
markie_Genealogy

5. Link the module into a menu block as : {pnTNG}
Did not do anything on this one - didn't understand the task)

6. To install blocks:
In Administration, go to Blocks, then select New Block, and select pnTNG/'block name'
Go to Blocks and edit the options for the block
I created a new block and selected "pnwhatsnew"? and then updated the block and got the error.

To get your system back on-line, you will likely have to delete the WhatsNew.php file. You can re-install this file once you have pnTNG configured correctly. It looks like I need to put an additional check in that block in the future if it can't read your TNG's config.php file.

For your configuration, if you directly access TNG from http://stantonetal.com/genealogy, then the first field should only have genealogy. The "TNG" in the example in your case is "genealogy".

It looks like your PostNuke installation is in your public_html directory. If so, then the second field is also genealogy
Or you could use /home/markie/public_html/genealogy

If you change (and save) the new values, you should see path information provided from your TNG config.php file. If so, you can re-install the WhatsNew.php file.

Unregistered User Hurray!

Thanks Wendel. I'm all up and running. I think the problems stemmed from getting the hang of postnuke!

I still can't get the Whats New block to work though. But that can wait till I'm more experienced.

Thanks for the prompt effective assistance!

All the best
