      WALLIE MENN STRAACH SCHMIEDEKAMP
SAN ANGELO — The good Lord above came down Thursday evening, Oct. 6, 2005, to take home one of His good and faithful servants, Wallie Menn Straach Schmiedekamp.
Family visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at the Miles United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sandy Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Miles Cemetery.
Wallie was born July 29, 1915, in the Bushdale Community, near Rockdale, Texas, in Milam County, to Herbert and Lydia Stork Menn. She married Reimar Straach on Feb. 23, 1935, in Rowena, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1982.
She later married Fred Schmiedekamp on Feb. 3, 1990. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1996.
Wallie was preceded in death by Reimar and Fred; grandson Paul Salvato; great-grandson John Walter Salvato; sister Linda Tuma; and brothers Edwin, Rubin, and Marvin Menn.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Salvato of San Angelo and Francine Lehr and husband Mike of Taylor; grandchildren, Angela Lee and husband Patrick of Murphy, and Steven Salvato and wife Julie of Kempner; great-grandchildren, Grace, Hope, and Luke Salvato; sisters, Helen Shoppa of Deer Park, Lizzie Lucas of Rockdale and Flora Mae Gillespie of Beaumont; sister-in-law Billie Menn of Bellaire; granddaughter-in-law Heidi Salvato of Colleyville; step-grandchildren, Richard Lehr and wife Margaret of Odessa, Alan Lehr and wife Jackie of Odessa, and Susan Gober and husband Dwain of San Angelo; step-great-grandchildren John, Ellen, and Grant Lehr, and Will and Abigail Gober. Numerous nieces and friends also survive Wallie.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Salvato, Patrick Lee, James Eggemeyer, Charles Ehrig, Larry Ray, and James Jimmy Urban. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell West, Erwin Kiesling, and Jim Petrey.
Wallie’s lifelong passion was her family and her church. She served 42 years in the children’s department of the Miles United Methodist Church, was a member of the choir and spent several years on the church administrative board. She also served in the women’s organization of the church, as vice president of the Cemetery Association, and as a trustee of the church and the Miles Independent School District.
Wallie left a hand-written note with her list of pallbearers — “My favorite hobbies were sewing, quilting, and playing 88. Nothing is better than country living where you can see the beautiful sunrise and sunset, working with the soil and gardening, resting under the trees listening to the birds singing and chirping.”
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Miles United Methodist Church, Miles Opera House-Senior Citizens Center, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – Dallas Chapter, 9400 N. Central Expressway, Suite 1201, Dallas, TX, 75231.
