      Mrs. Eliza Figard, wife of Joseph Figard, died January 26 at the home of her son, James L. Figard, after an illness of nearly a year. Mrs. Figard's maiden name was Thomas. She was born here on Broad Top on the 6th day of September, 1839, making her age sixty years, nine months and twenty days at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, eight children, and thirty-three grandchildren, three children and seven grandchildren having preceded her to the spirit world. The children who survive are Mrs. Elizabeth Nary [Neary?] of Stonerstown; Mrs. Sarah M. Satterfield, of Coaldale; James L. Figard, of Broad Top; Mrs. Angeline Walters, of Finleyville; Mrs. Malinda Grimes, of Saxton; Mrs. Martha E. Shade, of North Point; Mrs. Jemima Williams, of Coaldale; and Miss Lily, at home. Three brothers, Levi, John, and B.F. Thomas, also survive her. She was converted at the age of seventeen years and lived a consistent member of the Church of God for over forty-three years. She counseled with her dying words those that stood around her bedside to do right and live for God and heaven. She sang part of one of her favorite choruses, "And We'll Cross the River of Jordan Happy in the Lord." Then she became unconscious and sweetly fell asleep in Jesus, to awake in His likeness. Funeral services were conducted at the home of her son on Sunday by her pastor, Elder Jacob Stob. The large concourse of people that witnessed the burial, by the side of her children in Evans Cemetery, fully attest the high esteem in which she was held.
