[S726] Obituary of Joseph Figard, (unspecified newspaper), [Neary p. 11].
Joseph Figard, a lifelong resident of Broad Top Township, Bedford county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Wright, June 8, 1916, aged 82 years 5 months and 23 days. After many years of ill health, his home was destroyed by fire several years ago. After that time he lived with some of his children until a few weeks ago, when his condition became worse, he requiring constant attention, and others interfered and had him sent to the Bedford county House assuring them he would have good treatment and care which he failed to get. On Sunday before his death, his children went to see him and found him in a critical and uncared for condition. He was brought home at once, but did not recover, and on Thursday he departed this world to join other loved ones. His wife preceded him to the grave about sixteen years ago; also six children. "Uncle Joe" as he was best known, and his violin, will be missed in this community by a host of friends and relatives. He was the father of 12 children, had 56 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. The following children are living: Mrs. Mary E. Neauf [Neary] of Saxton; Mrs. Martha Shade, of Carlisle; Mrs. Jemima Williams, Mrs. Annie Walters, Miss Lillie R. Wright, and J. L. Figard, of six Mile Run. Funeral Services were held in Round Knob church conducted by Rev. Jas. Gilbert. Six of his grandsons were pallbearers. Interment in Evans Cemetery.
